WIP Wednesday: Jungle Ave. top

Hey! I sewed things this week.

Including this! I am so excited to be working with Jungle Ave., Sara Lawson's new fabric line for Art Gallery.

Sara is from Chicago, and Jungle Ave. has lots of Windy City flavor—especially my favorite print, which is a map of the Chicago L train system. Love!

I lived in Chicago for more than four years and rode the L to work every single day. I mostly hated riding the L—especially freezing my rear end off waiting for trains in the winter, and being involved in this delightful incident wasn't too fun either. But of course, the L is such a Chicago thing. And now that I live in a city with no public transportation to speak of, I kind of miss those grimy, grungy trains. It's made me strangely nostalgic for things like watching homeless people chug beer or clip their toenails on the rail cars. (Well, okay, maybe not that last one.)

Wellington Ave. My old stop. 😊

But I digress. I've had this design in my sketchbook for a while, but for the longest time I couldn't wrap my head around a way to construct it. A good way to do it hit me right around the time Sara asked me to design something for her line. And it turned out even better than I hoped! It kind of reminds me of one of those city walls covered with dozens of posters, where the top layers have peeled off in places and you can see the even older posters below. And yes, this quilt is going to be my next pattern! It's paper-pieced (sorry non-paper-piecers—there's no template option this time). But it's basically a string quilt. It doesn't get much easier than that. C'mon, you know you want to try it!

And here's what else I was working on—literally working on—this past week: A brand new Bernina 750QE. I'll be devoting a full post to my new baby next week sometime, so stay tuned!

What are you working on this week? Here are the linky rules:

1. Link up any blog post from the past week that features an unfinished work-in-progress (WIP).

2. Somewhere in your post, you must link back here to my blog.

3. Comment on at least a few of the other WIP Wednesday links—commenting on the two or three links directly before yours works well to make sure everyone gets comments!
