WIP Wednesday: Pre-Turkey

I’ve been on fire this week, you guys! In addition to getting ready to host a (small) Thanksgiving dinner, I made two quilt backs, basted two quilts, quilted and bound one, and prepped for a tips post that will be on Bernina’s blog. Woot!

Basically, this quilt needed to be done. Right now. No more messing around.

Also: I’ve already made the cranberry sauce and the sangria for Thursday. The stuffing is the next thing on my list. Because priorities.

Oh, one more thing! I’m having a Black Friday sale! Which goes until Sunday. : ) So come on back this weekend, because all my PDF patterns will be $4.99 in my pattern shop, Friday through Sunday, no coupon code needed.

What are you working on? Let’s see it! And happy Thanksgiving to all my U.S. readers!

WIP Wednesday: Starry Skies

Happy Wednesday! Here’s what I’ve got going this week.

It’s actually a new variation on my Shooting Star pattern. But without the star. Well, kind of. Now I’ve probably confused you. I guess you’ll just have to see it when I’m done, so stay tuned. : )

What are you working on? Let’s see it!

Kaleidoscope Baby Quilt

Woot! I finally finished the top for the kaleidoscope baby quilt I’ve been working on for like the last year.

The blocks were done and just sitting, for months. Honestly, it didn’t even take that long to sew them all together once I put pedal to the metal and just did it. Funny how that happens.
Now for quilting it! I’m still pondering what to do with the quilting. It’s such a busy piecing design, and sometimes those are the hardest for me to quilt.

Okay, so what are you working on this week? Let’s see it!

WIP Wednesday: The Finisher

Happy Wednesday! I spent most of my week finishing things, for once! The scrap quilt I was working on last week is now done (though I can’t show it just yet), and I finished up my back-to-school quilt for yesterday’s post. The drawback of all this finishing? I don’t have any new in-progress pictures for today! But I’m picking back up where I left off on my kaleidoscope baby quilt, so we’ll see how far I get with that this week.

Okay, so what are you working on this week? Let’s see it!

WIP Wednesday: Scrap-Happy

Happy Wednesday! Here’s what’s happening in my studio this week:

Lately I’ve been itching to make a something extra-crazy-scrappy, so I’ve started sorting through my scraps. I’m running out of room in the scrap bins, so I need to use up as many of these as possible! I had considered an Irish Chain, but now I’m thinking about something that will give more real estate to the scraps. Maybe just a simple postage stamp quilt? Hmmm.

Still working on the kaleidoscopes. Oh, yes. Still. : )

And I got my hands on this book recently, so I’m excited to try my hand at some upholstery! Upholstery: A whole new use for fabric. I can’t believe I’ve waited this long to try it! In fact, my dining room chairs are in desperate need of a little attention, so a full review of this fun book will be forthcoming.

Okay, what are you working on? Let’s see it!

WIP Wednesday: Summer Runnin’

Ah, summer. That time of the year when I spend entire days in the car, just shuttling the girls from one lesson/activity to the next. Looks like nice weather out there, does it? I wouldn’t know, I’ve been in an air-conditioned car all week. LOL.
Oh, but look! I did manage to remove the paper from my completed kaleidoscope blocks and press them. And my 6-year-old helped me put them up on the design wall. Progress!! : )
And my kitchen project is proceeding. Sort of kind of. I’m building onto the top of my existing kitchen cabinets, so that they extend all the way to the ceiling. It’s been made interesting by the fact that have never built anything, ever in my life. (Please note that this has not stopped me from buying lots of power tools over the last month.) So it’s been a learning experience, but I think I’m on track. And I’m really enjoying it, so I hope to continue putting those power tools to work!

Okay, what are you working on? Let’s see it!

WIP Wednesday: Kaleidoscopes Forever

So, does it feel like I’ve been sewing these kaleidoscope blocks for approximately the last forever? It sure feels that way to me!

But yes, this is what I’m still working on. At only 7″ finished, I have to make a lot of these little guys. And with the start-and-stop nature of this project, I guess I kind of have been working on it forever. Fortunately, the end is in sight. I’m done with the paper-piecing, so all I have to do is assemble the blocks. My goal is to have a finished top for you next week, plus maybe even a start on a scrap quilt, which I have been itching to make lately.

Okay, what are you working on? Let’s see it!

WIP Wednesday: Countdown to Summer

School ends for my kids in just over a week, so this week the countdown is on to get things done before they (and their various summer activities) dominate my days!

But first things first! My newest pattern, Moroccan Lanterns, is now available! I’ll have a full blog post with all the details about Moroccan Lanterns tomorrow, but for those of you who have been waiting for it, it is officially available for purchase today, and the PDF pattern is on sale through Sunday for just $4.99 (THIS SALE IS NOW OVER). So go grab it now from my pattern shop, and/or come back tomorrow for full details on this one!
As for WIPs, I’m still plugging away at my kaleidoscope baby quilt. I am determined to finish it ASAP! Also on my list before the kids get done with school: Organizing my pantry and finishing some trim painting. Not sewing-related, but fully necessary.

WIP Wednesday: Reassessing

Good morning, and happy Wednesday! I’ve spent the past week and a half since returning home from Quilt Market feeling the weight of months of hard work finally lifting. In the last 8 months, I’ve released 5 new patterns, developed and taught two new full-day workshops, lectured at countless local guilds, and much more. It was often just way too much. So instead of sewing over the last week or so, I’ve been assessing where I want to go next.

And the answer is: Kinda nowhere. For the next few months at least, I’d really like to get back to what I used to do, which is just sewing what I want to sew, and blogging about it. I love designing patterns, but it’s amazing how the “industry” can change the way you do things, and even what you do. I feel like the cart has been driving the horse for me recently, if that makes any sense, and I’d like to turn that back around this summer, and get back to doing what I really love!

So this summer, my goal is to do some fun sewing, and blog about it. The end. I also have some non-sewing-related projects I’m going to tackle around the house—some organizing and minor remodeling. You might see a little of that on the blog as well, though I promise not to overdo it with the non-sewing-related content! (And of course there will be some sewing involved in the house projects too! How could there not be?)

And I’m starting with this project, a loooong overdue baby quilt. (It’s one of those cases where the baby might not even be a baby anymore by the time I finally get it to the recipient! Well, what can you do?)

One other thing of note: Don’t forget to check out my new quilt pattern, Chevron Star, which went on sale yesterday—it’s on sale for $3 off, today and tomorrow only! This sale is now done. Click here to purchase.

But enough about me! What are you working on? Let’s see it!

WIP Wednesday: Modern Maples

It’s Wednesday! What’s happening out there in WIP land?
This week I’m breaking out some maple leaf blocks for a really fun, special project. I’ve been working with fabric designer Allison Beilke and AIGA Wisconsin on a fabric design contest—the contest winners’ designs were all printed onto fabric by Modern Yardage. And now for the fun part (for me, anyway): I get to use all the prints in a quilt!

The contestants were asked to design prints inspired by Wisconsin’s natural beauty. And yes, that is a mosquito jacquard in the bottom right. : ) (It doesn’t get more Wisconsin than that!) I was hard-pressed to think of a better setting for Wisconsin-inspired fabric than maple leaf blocks.

And I’m still plugging away at my kaleidoscope blocks! They’re coming along nicely.
