Perfect HST Sampler FAQ
When/how will I receive the block patterns?
When your purchase is complete, you will receive an email with a link to download PDF files of the 12 sampler block patterns, as well as finishing instructions and bonus project patterns.
Is this a beginner-friendly pattern?
Yes! This pattern is suitable for everyone from beginners up through those with years of experience—and anyone in between! I am assuming you know quilting and piecing basics, such as how to sew a consistent scant 1/4” seam, standard pattern terminology, etc. As long as you have some of that basic knowledge, you should be good to go.
Is there any foundation paper-piecing in this sampler pattern?
No, there is no paper-piecing!
Am I required to purchase the Perfect HST Templates?
There are many ways to make half-square triangles, but the instructions for this quilt require the Perfect HST Templates, which are sold separately. Fabric amounts, cutting lists, etc. are all specifically geared for using the templates. The templates come in a downloadable PDF format that you print onto paper, and they can be used to make half-square triangles in any pattern that calls for them, not just this pattern! You can purchase them here.
What sizes are the blocks and the finished quilt?
The completed quilt will measure 52” x 62.” Ten of the monthly blocks are 12-1/2” square, one block is 28-1/2” square, and one block is 12-1/2” x 10-1/2”.
I want to make a larger quilt—can you tell me how to do that?
Since this quilt-along was designed to be beginner-friendly, I wanted to keep the quilt size smaller and more manageable for newer quilters. If you would like to make a larger quilt, I would suggest adding additional/larger borders in the background color to reach your desired size, surrounding the design with negative space. But since everyone’s size requirements are different, I cannot provide the quilt math/instructions for this option.
What are the fabric requirements? Are there kits available?
Following are the Kona Cotton Solids colors and their yardage requirements: Kona Shadow - 2-1/2 yards. Kona White - 1/18 yards. Kona Cerise - 1/4 yard. Kona Valentine - 1/3 yard. Kona Nectarine - 1/3 yard. Kona Grellow - 1/4 yard. Kona Wasabi - 1/4 yard. Kona Pickle - 1/3 yard. Kona Jade Green - 3/8 yard. Kona Glacier - 1/3 yard. Kona Aqua - 1/2 yard. Kona Nightfall - 1/2 yard. A limited number of fabric kits are available from Sewtopia.
What if I did not receive my email to download a block pattern?
1. Go back to any previous monthly email you received—links from old emails will work, even for new files that have more recently been made available.
2. Create an account in my online shop—please note that accounts are not created automatically, you must set one up and set your own password. Click here to set up your account. When creating your account, be sure to use the same email as you used to make your purchase. Downloadable files for all purchases made under that email address will then be available to download in your account. (Please note that if you purchased your BOM subscription on Etsy, the account method will not work for you.)
3. If the first two methods don’t work for you, contact me to resend your email.
