Summer Sampler 2019 Block 15: Using color
Hello from New York City! I'm spending a week there with my family as a last hurrah before the kids head back to school. We’re doing all the touristy things, plus taking in some theater and U.S. Open tennis. Hopefully in the midst of our vacationing, I remembered to send out this week's Summer Sampler 2019 block pattern! If I forgot, I promise it will show up soon. 😂
Anyway, this week's block pattern is ... (drumroll) ... all about using color! This is one of my very favorite things about quilting—the way color and value choices can dramatically alter the look of a design. This week's block is called "Circle Gets the Square" and it was designed by Krystina Hopkins of KH Quilts.
These are traditional drunkard path units, and it's some pretty tight curve sewing. But the design payoff here is huge! I love the finished result. And Krystina's pattern includes a great discussion of how color placement can change the look of this block design—it's worthwhile to scan that part of the pattern before you make any decisions about how to use color in this block.
